How long do refunds take and where will it go?

January 11 2024 4:22pm • Est. Read Time: 2 MIN

All refunds may take up to 15 business days to process.

After the 15 days:

If you paid via Credit Card or Debit Card, your refund will be returned to your card, with a few exceptions:

  • Your most recent payment was over 180 days prior to today's date

  • The refund amount is greater than the most recent payment you made

  • If you are on a multi payment schedule and make an overpayment, the overpaid amount will be applied to your upcoming payment(s) unless the overpayment is above the policy's full amount in which case the difference will be refunded back to you.

  • If you are on a multi payment schedule and an endorsement to your policy decreases your premium, the upcoming payment(s) will be reduced proportionally. If the decrease is more than your remaining payments, the difference will be refunded back to you.

If one of these exceptions applies to you, your refund will be sent as a digital check via Checkbook.io (see below for additional details).

If your refund is going back to your card, it will take an additional 3-7 business days to reflect back in your account once the refund has been processed and issued by Kin. These additional 3-7 business days depend on your card issuer’s processing times.

If your mortgage company made the original payment, we will send the policyholder (you) an email with a digital check via Checkbook.io. We will never refund your mortgage company directly, all refunds will be sent to the policyholder.

*We advise that if your mortgage company made the initial payment, you return any amount refunded to you to your escrow account to avoid any shortages.

If you are receiving a check via Checkbook.io you will receive an email from support@checkbook.io after the 15-day processing period.

The email will allow you to choose between three deposit options:

If you are expecting a refund and do not see an email from Checkbook.io after 15 days, please be sure to check your spam/junk folder! If you still do not see that email, please Submit a Request and we'll look into it for you ASAP!
